St. Petersburg

Following NFM in California, I paid a visit to CAV, this time in St. Petersburg. While I have a thing or two for Russian culture (or at least some bits of it), it’s not exactly a progressive country. And don’t even ask about the visa process. Meh. The place I stayed at was lovely, on the other hand (an apartment building converted to a hotel) and architecture of the city centre is pretty cool.

Dramatic skies are apparently a common occurence, given how close to the ocean this great port city is. This one is over “small” Neva (a branch of the main Neva river), but it’s not so small by central-european standards…

The last picture is of Peter’s and Paul’s fortress, as seen from a bridge across the main Neva. Even though it hardly gets entirely dark in July at this high a latitude, the sun mostly hangs low in the sky…
